COMPLAIN TO THE ADVERTISERIt is especially important to contact the media when they broadcast or publish the advertisement of the business you believe is a scam. They may well have a disclaimer which prevents them from legal responsibility, but your complaint could deter or convince them to stop running the ads in the future. Reputable firms assume responsibility for their advertising. Obviously it does not reflect well on them if they are promoting a scam, and they can be expected to investigate your claims to protect their corporate image. When you complain to the advertiser, cite as many reliable sources as possible, including BBB reports, where applicable, and news stories, if any, plus your first-hand experience. In other words, be prepared to make your case. |
